Nicaragua's National Council of Universities Launches Data Centre

The CNU plans on installing data centre infrastructure in each of its universities alongside network equipment.

Nicaragua’s National Council of Universities (CNU) has inaugurated a data centre facility in Managua.

In collaboration with Huawei, the project saw an investment of more than 120 million cordobas ($3.2m) to transform the country’s educational information system.

Specifications of the installation were not shared.

In a report from TN8, Ramona Rodríguez, President of the CNU, said, “The agreement we have signed has a purpose: to strengthen and enhance the capabilities of the CNU universities by sharing information, providing assistance, and creating an institutional strategy for the integration of information and communication technologies for students, teaching staff, and administrative staff.”

Oscar Felipe Sevillano, Business and Solutions Manager at Huawei, added, “This digital transformation project will not only cover the current needs of universities but also future trends, including artificial intelligence systems, which will allow for adaptive education.”

Rodriguez added that the CNU plans on installing data centre infrastructure in each of its universities alongside network equipment.

The state-owned CNU was created in 1990 and its members include 11 universities across Nicaragua.

Huawei has been committed to investing in Latin America since 2023. The Chinese tech giant currently has three cloud regions in the area; in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, as well as two national regions in Argentina and Peru. Huawei has also announced plans to add new content-delivery networks (CDNs) in Nicaragua and other Latin American countries.
