Stargate is set to spend some $100 billion over the next year on data centres, and a record $500 bn over the next four years.
OpenAI plans to develop up to ten Stargate data centre projects across the world, as it continues to develop its $500 billion US joint venture.
The company has asked for representatives of interested governments to reach out through their representatives in the US and through its executives based in our offices around the world.
OpenAI said that it is seeking formalised infrastructure collaborations – which will still be “in coordination with the US government.”
The partnership would see the development of in-country data centre capacity. “These secure data centres will help support the sovereignty of a country’s data, build new local industries, and make it easy to customise AI and leverage their data in a private and compliant way,” OpenAI said.
Partner countries would be expected to invest in expanding the global Stargate Project “and thus in continued US-led AI leadership and a global, growing network effect for democratic AI.”
Both the countries and OpenAI would invest in a national start-up fund “so the new infrastructure is creating new jobs, new companies, new revenue, and new communities for each country.”
OpenAI is currently targeting ten projects with individual countries or regions as the first phase of this initiative. Previous reports said that the company was interested in the UK, France, and Germany.
Under its current plans, Stargate – backed by SoftBank, Oracle, and MGX – is set to spend some $100 billion over the next year on data centres, and a record $500bn over the next four years.
The company is currently developing a data centre campus in Abilene, Texas.
