Although the company has previously inked deals to lease space at data centres, this will be the first data centre to be developed by Google in India.
Google is in negotiations to purchase a 22.5-acre land parcel in Navi Mumbai, India, for its first self-built data centre in the country.
According to the sources, the transaction is at an advanced stage and may get concluded anytime soon. The proposed captive data center may have a capacity of a couple of hundred megawatts given the large size of the land parcel.
The land is owned by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and is currently leased to Gramercy Trade Industries.
