Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism and start-up ecosystem Hub71 partner on innovative start-up solutions to drive the tourism and culture sectors

The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) and startup ecosystem Hub71 partner on innovative startup solutions to drive creativity in the tourism and culture sectors.

Innovation in culture and tourism

Hub71, Abu Dhabi’s global tech ecosystem, and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive the future of technological development to plan the future of Abu Dhabi’s culture and tourism sectors through the creation of innovative start-up solutions.

The agreement will see DCT Abu Dhabi and Hub71 identify promising start-ups and work with them on solutions that will support the emirate’s tourism and culture sectors, collaborate on high-impact events and provide mentorships to startup founders and entrepreneurs. The startups gain access to DCT Abu Dhabi funding to enable their development of concepts and overcome challenges.

Seeking startups

Saeed Al Fazari, Executive Director for Support Services Sector, DCT Abu Dhabi, said, “Encouraging innovation is a key mandate for DCT Abu Dhabi, as we explore every available avenue in our pursuit of excellence across multiple sectors. This partnership with Hub71 will enable us to widen the net of potential start-ups we could collaborate with, maximising our capacity to find the right solution that will work for our emirate as we promote the destination both locally and internationally.”

Hub71 will create a broad pipeline of regional and global start-ups that will provide innovations intended to upscale the sectors’ services, in addition to Hub71 finding a quarterly cohort of start-ups.

The two organisations will collaborate to organise knowledge- and expertise-based programs to support existing start-ups. DCT Abu Dhabi will also participate in Hub71’s flagship challenge, The Outliers, which invites the best start-ups from around the world to solve issues chosen by Hub71’s corporate and government partners. The winning startup’s proof of concept will be granted endorsement by DCT Abu Dhabi.
