Microsoft partners with labour unions, discusses the future of AI and supports the technology skills and needs of frontline workers
Microsoft announced a partnership with a major labour group, representing sixty unions and Twelve and a half million workers, to create an open discussion on the future of artificial intelligence and quell fears that AI will replace jobs.
The partnership with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organisations comes as Microsoft and other AI providers face increased concern from labour groups and regulatory bodies over how AI will displace workers.
The alliance will include AI learning sessions for workers, “experiential workshops” focused on niche AI career opportunities between 2024 and 2026 as well as Microsoft-hosted labour summits to incorporate feedback from labour leaders and workers.
The alliance has three goals, including, sharing in-depth information with labour leaders and workers on AI technology trends, incorporating worker perspectives and expertise in the development of AI technology, and helping shape public policy that supports the technology skills and needs of frontline workers.
