Peace Subsea Cable Goes Live

China Mobile has officially activated the Peace subsea cable between Singapore and France.

In a LinkedIn post, the telco said the 1,500km cable is now live, making it the company’s third Asia-Europe cable after the AAE-1 and SeaMeWe-5 cables.

The cable has 13 landing points across 12 countries, linking Singapore to Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Construction of the Singapore portion began in December last year and was completed in July this year.

The Huawei-made Peace cable was first launched in 2022, linking Marseille in France to Egypt. Extensions to Pakistan and Kenya were completed in 2022.

An extension of the cable to Tunisia landed in Bizerte in February this year, in partnership with Ooredoo’s local unit. In the same month, the cable landed in Kulhudhuffushi in the Maldives.

Peace is operated by Hong Kong-based telecoms company PCCW Global and has a capacity of up to 96Tbps for the Pakistan-Egypt segment and 192Tbps for the Mediterranean segment from Egypt to France. The capacity of the Singapore splice is not known.

Tuas in Singapore currently hosts cables including the Indigo-West cable, IGG System, SeaMeWe-3, SeaMeWe-4, SeaMeWe-5, and Southeast Asia-Japan cables.

Cables set to go live in the next three years include the MIST, INSICA, Asia Direct Cable, Apricot, and Bifrost cables.
