Access to the API will be tiered, allowing for testing purposes to be separate from general consumption

Pinterest has announced the release of the fifth iteration of the company’s Pinterest API. This latest iteration is intended to serve as a pivot point for the company toward a more developer-centric perspective.

The company will be providing a single API that is intended to be effective in all situations. Additionally, access to the API will be tiered, allowing for testing purposes to be separate from general consumption.

“The Pinterest API (v5) allows developers to connect quickly and begin building applications to enable faster creation of content on Pinterest and access user, Pin, and ads analytics. This is the first time in Pinterest’s history that we are launching a developer-centric open API,” said Pinterest.

Pinterest has now redesigned its OAuth 2.0 scopes with refreshable user access tokens to give Pinners control over which apps they grant access to. On the developer side, the Pinterest Developers interface is overhauled to make it easier to add collaborators, learn best practices and manage Pinterest apps.

Pinterest API (v5) enables developers to quickly connect to the Pinterest platform and build apps that enable faster content creation, with access to analytics on ads, Pins and users.
