Saudi Food Authority Discusses AI Technologies in Shanghai

Saudi Food Authority’s representatives gave three scientific presentations on regulating AI medical applications, updates on innovative medical devices, and the SFDA’s efforts in establishing a pathway to support innovative medical devices.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority participated in the 27th annual meeting of the Global Harmonization Working Party in Shanghai, China. It chaired meetings of the organisation’s scientific and technical committees which were held on the sidelines.

The authority participated in dialogue sessions about standardized coding for medical devices and a session on capacity building in medical devices and supplies.

The meeting also discussed post-marketing control updates and technical capacity building in regulatory bodies related to medical device legislation and oversight. It also looked at recent developments regarding the control of medical devices and supplies of the organisation’s member states.

The authority’s representatives gave three scientific presentations on regulating AI medical applications in the Kingdom, updates on innovative medical devices, and the SFDA’s efforts in establishing a pathway to support innovative medical devices. It also presented an overview of the latest developments in the field of control and regulation of medical devices and supplies in the Kingdom.

The Saudi delegation met South Korean delegates on the sidelines of the meeting to discuss the mechanisms for implementing provisions related to medical devices and supplies in the memorandum of cooperation between the two countries.
