Sierra Wireless, the Canadian-based Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider, has acquired Auckland-based technology firm M2M One NZ.
Sierra Wireless offers a broad portfolio of edge-to-cloud solutions, comprising embedded and networking devices integrated with network connectivity services and cloud software.
Sierra Wireless employs more than 1,000 people globally and has an annual revenue of USD 448 million.
The company reported that the acquisition was made to further grow its footprint in the Australia and New Zealand region, the company wrote in a statement.
M2M One NZ provides wireless products and services for the Machine to Machine (M2M) and IoT industries.
The company will become part of the A/NZ-based M2M Group under Sierra Wireless, tasked with creating new trans-Tasman opportunities for customers.
Moving forward, a core focus of the company will be to scale up its connectivity business and add cloud-based solutions, commonly called ‘device-to-cloud’, including Sierra Wireless’ Octave all-in-one IoT solution.
Established in 2015, at present M2M One NZ are a top provider of M2M/IoT SIM cards which help SME customers connect devices and wirelessly transmit data in industrial and remote locations.
M2M One NZ has offices in Auckland and Christchurch, and is led by general manager Lone Misikini.
Under Misikini’s guidance, the acquisition will see M2M One NZ transition its business to focus more broadly on the design and deployment of wireless IoT systems for industries including agriculture, manufacturing, security, mobile payments and transport.
Misikini says, “At a time when we are feeling isolated, we are proud that our capability and the position we have built alongside our customers and strategic partner Spark NZ, has been recognised by one of the biggest wireless technology players in the world.”
“By becoming part of the Sierra Wireless group of companies, we will be able to grow further and both access and accelerate the adoption of the world’s best wireless technology to the benefit of NZ businesses and industry,” he adds.
Sierra Wireless vice president recurring revenue A/NZ, Darren Moroney, says, “M2M One NZ has a strong management team and solid carrier relations in the region.
“We hope to build on these foundations and the take up of our IoT services and solutions in New Zealand.”
Moroney says, “As part of the M2M Group, M2M One NZ will have access to a global portfolio of world-class hardware, support and design services to incorporate into the NZ market.
“Plus, the ability to tap into the knowledge and expertise Sierra Wireless has honed over the past 25 years.”
M2M One NZ is the second A/NZ company Sierra Wireless has acquired. In January 2020, Sierra Wireless acquired the M2M Group in Australia for USD 19.6 million.
