Vodafone’s Tympakios open cable landing station is the first to be operational in Southern Crete.
Vodafone Greece has announced it has landed the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) subsea cable at its cable landing station in Crete.
The nearly 10,000 km cable will connect Mumbai to Europe when operational in 2025 and land in nine points across seven countries.
The SubCom-manufactured IEX cable is set to land in Djibouti City, Djibouti; Sidi Kerir and Zafarana, Egypt; Tympaki, Greece; Mumbai, India; Savona, Italy; Salalah, Oman; Neom and Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
Vodafone’s Tympakios open cable landing station is the first to be operational in Southern Crete, with the majority of subsea cables concentrated in the north of the island.
“As undersea cables connect regions and continents, bridging geographical barriers and enabling global connectivity, Greece can be part of a system that connects countries, regions, and remote areas to the Internet and telecommunications networks, promoting economic development,” said Nikos Plevris, Network Director of Vodafone Greece.
“The prospects arising from this investment are expected to put Greece back on the global digital map and offer additional opportunities for Vodafone partners and connectivity resellers in the region.”
Chania, in the north of Crete, is home to cables such as the AAE-1, Blue, MediNautilus, and SeaMeWe-3. Earlier this year, Sparkle landed its BlueMed subsea cable in Chania.
