Meta Plans $5Bn Data Centre Campus in Louisiana

Meta previously signed a Power Purchase Agreement with RWE for a 100MW solar farm in Louisiana that is due live in 2025.

Meta looks set to expand its data centre footprint into Louisiana.

Local press reports that Meta is planning to build a multi-billion dollar artificial intelligence data centre in Louisiana near Monroe in Richland Parish’s Holly Ridge.

Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell confirmed the news to USA Today Network and said the company aims to invest $5 billion in the project.

Few details are available at this time, but Axiom reports plans for the campus have been filed through an affiliate known as Laidley, LLC, and is known as “Project Sucre.”

Citing a public notice, Axiom suggests Meta is targeting more than 2,250 acres of agricultural land off Highway 183 and Thomas Road.

Entergy is proposing to develop a 1.5GW natural gas plant in Louisiana, near Holly Ridge, for a new data centre customer. Reports have linked Entergy’s proposals to the new Meta project.

2024 has seen Meta announce facilities in Jeffersonville, Indiana; Aiken, South Carolina, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Rosemount, Minnesota; and Montgomery, Alabama. This year, the company launched a campus in Gallatin, Tennessee. The company has been linked to, but not officially announced, a project in Davenport, Iowa.
